School HistoryThe first school in Boulder City was held in a Six Companies house at Avenue B. and New Mexico between 1931 and 1932. It was staffed by volunteer teachers and was a private enterprise. There was a $5 a month tuition, and students had to purchase their own books. | 1932 Red Brick School HouseThe second Boulder City school, presently City Hall, was built due to overcrowding and inadequate facilities. Construction started on May 23, 1932 and the school opened on September 26, 1932 less than 100 days later. It housed high school and elementary grade students. | 1941 Another School AddedIn September 1941 the government awarded a contract for another school to be built. Initially, it housed the high school, but over time it became a part of the elementary school. It is presently the Boulder City Recreation Department. |

The Leader in MeDeveloping leaders with 21st Century skills!!
In 2015, after a years-long process, the Franklin Covey leaders announced that Mitchell had achieved Lighthouse Status. This means that we were one of only a handful of Leader In Me schools which would serve as an example of leadership in education. Other schools interested in becoming a Leader in Me school soon began to visit Mitchell to spread the fire of leadership! | Present dayMore than forty years later, Andrew J. Mitchell Elementary School continues to educate the children of Boulder City. Due to increased student population, an additional school opened in 1991. This school was named Martha P. King Elementary School. Grades K-2nd are taught at Mitchell ES while 3rd-5th attend King ES. | 1970 Wagon Moving ParadeIn 1970 the students moved their classroom supplies with their red wagons to our present location, which opened as Boulder City Elementary School. Later in the early eighties it was named Andrew J. Mitchell Elementary School, in honor of a former Principal that headed the school from 1954-1978. |
